About Long Beach State University

CSULB, LBSU, or simply The Beach is the second largest campus in the California State University system and the 3rd largest university, by enrollment, in the state.


Long Beach State University was founded in 1949 by California Governor Earl Warren, first starting under the name of Los Angeles-Orange County State College.


Over the years, the university grew and it is known today as being one of the most respected and well-known universities in the state, having an enrollment of about 50 000 students.


CSULB consists in 7 academic colleges, including the College of Arts, College of Business Administration, the College of Education and College of Liberal Arts, offering a total of 81 baccalaureate degrees, 16 education-related credential programs, 67 master's degrees and 3 doctoral degrees.


The university was highly ranked by several well-known magazines, such as U.S. News and World Report, including by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. News and World Report repeatedly placing it among the Top 50 undergraduate programs in the nation.


The teams that are representing the university in collegiate championships are known as the Long Beach State 49's, named "49’s" to honor the year when the university was founded.


Long Beach State has a total of 18 sports teams, competing in the NCAA division I, Big West Conference and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, covering sports areas such as baseball, softball, cross country, basketball and golf.


Numerous notable personalities have studied at Cal State Long Beach, including names such as:
